Cowboy Action Shooting at Turkeyfoot

Additional Information

Experience the excitement of competitive shooting combined with the enjoyment of historical reenactment and role playing, all set against the backdrop of the Old West with Cowboy Action Shooting®.

Participants don pre–1900 attire and utilize original or replica firearms that cowboys used in the late 1800s.

The shooting events are timed, and scores are recorded to determine winners. While the competition is thrilling, we also cherish the friendships formed and the sheer fun of shooting together.

This sport typically involves four guns, but we have additional categories that accommodate two, such as using two pistols or a combination of a pistol and a rifle. Come join us at a match to discover what it's all about! Don't worry about the gear until you've attended your first match; we are more than happy to assist you.

Certain categories do have dress code and costume requirements, but since we sanction our own matches, some rules are relaxed for newcomers to the sport. Feel free to stop by or reach out with any questions.

For inquiries, please contact Steve at 319-529-0442.

Cost is $10 for members, who also qualify for year-end awards, and $15 for nonmembers.

Upon completion of the Cowboy Action matches a YUMMY lunch is served for ONLY $7! Join us and recap the match.

All participants on-site must wear eye and ear protection and sign a waiver.

Scoring and Registration

We use PractiScore to keep score during the Cowboy Action matches. This is the most cost effective time-plus scoring app available and is widely used throughout various shooting sports. Pre-registration helps save time the day of the match. Please create a free PractiScore account, locate the Turkeyfoot club, pick the appropriate match date and register online. We will accept walk-ups but please arrive in a timely manner to get registered in-person. Thank you!

You will check-in and pay when you arrive to the range.

Cowboy action award policy

Membership Requirements

To qualify for any year-end award, an individual must be a member in good standing of Turkeyfoot Longrifles and Cowboys, a community dedicated to both competitive shooting and historical reenactment.

**Category Placement Awards**

We will give awards for each SASS Category in which we had one or more club members who shot at least 5 monthly matches in that category (not including the first March warm-up shoot). Those who qualify for placement will be ranked according to their best five finishes in their category.

Participants must shoot at least 5 matches in the same category to qualify for an award. If qualifying in more than one category, only the category with the best score will be awarded, and the next in line winner of the other category will receive the winner slot.

Note: Ties will be broken by comparing the ranking of the tied shooters where they attended the same match. Awards or plaques will be awarded to the first three places in each category, with certificates for other placements.

Dead Eye Awards

Cowboy shooting isn't solely about fast shooting; it also celebrates precision and skill, much like in competitive shooting events. Therefore, we want to honor those who achieve clean shoots during the season. We will present a clean shoot pin to each shooter who accomplishes the impressive feat of shooting a clean match. It is not necessary to attend five or more matches to receive this award. Note: Procedure penalties are counted as errors and disqualify the shooter from a clean shoot. However, if bonuses are included in a stage and the total bonus time is equal to or greater than the total misses on that stage, that stage will be considered clean and can be counted toward the Dead Eye Award.

Special Recognition

Special Recognition awards may be given for various reasons.
